Most UK Army ranges are equipped with the rugged and reliable Range Console produced by Royal Ordnance, Blackburn. A large number of the units are still serviceable, however some of the switches are nearing the end of their useful life and the mechanical counters are wearing out. MS Instruments PLC have designed a plug-in replacement unit which combines the ruggedness of the original design with the advantages offered by a modern electronic system. Improvements include: Solid-state counters which are longer-lasting and accommodate rapid fire modes of operation. Red Light Emitting Diode displays which are bright during the day yet don't intrude during night firing. Replaceable channels, in a similar manner to the existing units, for ease of service. Bounce-back is available. There is individual channel counter reset and all counter reset. The units have an additional electronic interface which allows control by a standard IBM PC-compatible processor. The software provided replicates the functionality of the EASI controller and adds individual target control, hit feedback and data logging with printout features.
