When a shotgun is
fired, it is often necessary to analyse the pattern of pellet
dispersion for forensic or scoring purposes. This is done
typically by firing at a large card or paper target with varying
chokes and cartridge types. The resulting hole patterns in a
given piece of card may be analysed to measure dispersion by
manual means, however this is time-consuming and prone to error.
The Shotgun Scatter
Analyser operates by presenting a paper target of nominal area
1m x 1m. The operator fires at the target and then presses a key
to advance the paper through the built in image analyser.
The image from the camera is used to measure the hole shape
parameters, area and positions. Due to the complex mathematical
algorithms being used, sub-pixel accuracy is possible, giving
precision measurement over the entire area.
